The Charter

Article I · Entrenched

No advertising, ever

Member dues pay for Steppe, so it works for members instead of advertisers. The articles forbid changing that.

Article II · Entrenched

Verify, then forget

Joining means proving you live here. After that, the proof is deleted, so your membership stays local and private.

Article III · Entrenched

Members govern it

One member, one vote. Members set the budget, elect the board, and can recall it. No founder gets the last word.

Article IV · Entrenched

Your data is yours

Take everything you've added and leave whenever you want. Never sold; can't be bought by anyone who would.

How it works

01

Verify you're local

Confirm you live in Central Oregon, a quick one-time check. Real neighbors only.

02

Join for $4 / month

That's the whole membership. Pay once a year or by bank transfer. And if money's tight right now, the hardship waiver is yours, no questions asked.

03

Settle in

Join groups, post to the local exchange, ask for a hand and lend one, and get to know the people who actually live around you.

04

Help steer it

Help decide the budget, the rules, and where Steppe goes next. Your ballot is secret — everyone starts at 1×, votes count equally at launch, and weight accrues with tenure.

Be counted.

Steppe works once enough neighbors join to run it. Add your name to the record.
